Our driver, XL, (it can mean “excellent” or “extra long” apparently) is a man of discerning tastes, with a predilection for the gastronomic. We were therefore surprised when he suggested that we ask our barman to make us some “steel bottoms” – a drink which, at first hearing, sounds like pretty much the worst cocktail ever conceived. The ingredients of a steel bottom? Wray & Nephew overproof rum mixed in equal measures with Red Stripe lager. The verdict: utterly vile. Stomach-turningly hideous. Gag juice. Having said that, it wasn’t undrinkable. If anything, it was quite morish. Which is why it’s almost lunchtime here and we’ve not yet managed to leave our bed.
Pre-steel-bottom missus looks rather classy and demure doesn’t she? The dress is from the Vintage Resource Studio and the scarf is from Liberty. Must dash – I need to check Katie hasn’t swallowed her tongue.

Ha! I just made a lolz.
