11.30.11Taken When Joe Turned 30I grow old. . . I grow old. . . I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled. All downhill from here innit. Time to release that difficult spoken-word album, trade the missus in for a set of golf clubs, agonise over my pension and think about good schools and salvaging what's left of my life in the 'burbs. I am, of course, off to the bar. It's going to be an afternoon of Hemmingwayesque proportions. Thankfully, I already have his beard.

11.29.11Taken In KS Day 8Big news! We've moved hotels. After some amazing customer service from Sally at Kuoni, we're now at Sala Samui, very possibly the chicest hotel we've ever stayed at. Plus, when we got here, the manager upgraded us - perhaps he knows that it's my birthday tomoz. We've got our own private walled suite with its own pool and when we arrived they asked us what scents we liked and then made us a personalised body lotion and soap selection based on our choices. 11.28.11Taken On KS Day 7Another pretty sweet day here in Koh Samui. Some snapper, some sun and some Singha. Can't dally and chat, the masseuse gets irate if I'm late. Katie's wears a delightful ASOS kaftan and a vintage headscarf. Joe's tan rating: Tao from The Mysterious Cities of Gold. P.S. Did I mention I turn 30 in a couple of days? Hope you've been shopping. Things I like: Rose and Violet cremes, old malt, short shorts. Things I don't like: Marlboro Lights, Gatwick airport, Nigel Farage. So don't get me those.

Alas, I feel I need to apologise to all and any with vested financial interests in your property portfolio. No doubt in the past your buy one get one free drinks policy might have been a sound marketing strategy to lure thirsty passersby into sampling the wider delights of your leisure offering. Itinerary: apply suntan lotion to Katie, breakfast, apply suntan lotion to Katie, beach, apply suntan lotion to Katie, pool, apply suntan lotion to Katie, lounger, apply suntan lotion to Katie, lunch, apply suntan lotion to Katie, cocktails, apply suntan lotion to Katie, beer, apply suntan lotion to Katie, repeat until dusk (after which, continue process replacing suntan lotion with DEET). Doesn't Miss Factor Fifty look adorable though? She wears a gorgeous sundress from the Vintage Resource Studio, JuJu jellies, and Chloé aviators. Joe's tan rating: Sir Trevor hits the sunbeds.

11.25.11Taken On KS Day 4Look, here's Katie on her gahp yahr! We've done a bit of trekking about today - seen a massive Buddha dude and ridic guy with lots of arms (Vishnu? - think I might be conflating a couple of major world religions here). We then straight armed a few beers at a hotel called The Library before getting our feet rubbed for an hour while trying to work out how much money we'd need to save to retire permanently to Thailand, Paul Gadd style. 11.24.11Taken On KS Day 3Funny story: so we've been checking all the guidebooks and many of the internets to work out what the Thai greeting is that the locals, staff, masseuses, etc. address us with several hundred times a day. Turns out they're all saying "Guten Tag". Either we're staying in Bophut twinned with Dortmund or everyone thinks we look like Ze Germans. Not that we've got any problem with our Anglo Saxon cousins: Katie spricht fließend Deutsch and I'm well into Freikörperkultur. Just never thought we looked espesh German - must be because my Nietzsche is alway on the best sunlounger before sunrise and Katie's ...

11.23.11Taken In KS Day 2Massively loving Koh Samui so far. We've walked along the beach, had massages (although I was slightly disappointed not to have been offered, at least, the full gamut of Thai hospitality) and then eaten some awesome Thai food. Oh, and the hotel serves dim sum for breakfast, which can't possibly be a bad thing. Now time for a quick jacuzzi before cocktail o'clock. Katie's only been bitten a handful of times (and none on the face) so this is definitely shaping up to be a holiday to remember. 11.22.11Taken In Koh SAmuiWe said goodbye to Anton after a ridiculous bout of dim sum at Taste Paradise and we've now just arrived in Koh Samui! We're staying at the Bophut Spa at the north of the island (alas, away from the sexy times and amphetamine parties). It's too dark to go for an explore but the jacuzzi on our terrace is certainly a very, very good thing. Katie wears a vintage dress, Tie Rack headscarf, a couple of Welcome To Thailand flower garlands and a load of insect repellant. Time for our first Thai cocktail. X

11.21.11Taken In S-TownYo! We've been out shopping in Singapore. It's been lots of fun. We've had some drinks, bought some stuff and then gorged on tonnes of dim sum. We fly off again tomorrow but first we're off to hit up Raffles for cocktails. Katie wears an ASOS dress, All Saints sandals and Chanel bag. The hairy creep behind her wears ridiculous Micropacers.
